Simple pump or filter fixes might take a day or two; more involved renovations (leaks, waterfall rebuilds, liner replacement) might take several days. We’ll walk through a timeline before starting. - [Can you repair waterfalls and streams without full replacement?](https://willowridgegardencenter.com/faq/can-you-repair-waterfalls-and-streams-without-full-replacement/): In many cases yes. We often restore existing rockwork, rebuild underlayment, reset stones, repair liners or spills, or replace worn pieces—sometimes without starting from scratch unless the damage demands. - [How do you locate leaks?](https://willowridgegardencenter.com/faq/how-do-you-locate-leaks/): Leak detection often begins with considering visible symptoms (dropping water level, wet ground, liner wrinkles). We use water tests, observe flow paths, inspect plumbing, and sometimes perform pressure or dye tests. We distinguish between leaks in liner vs. leaks in plumbing or pump/filter areas. - [What causes ponds to become green or murky?](https://willowridgegardencenter.com/faq/what-causes-ponds-to-become-green-or-murky/): Several things—insufficient filtration, lack of aquatic plants, nutrient imbalance, dirty filters, or low water flow. We start by diagnosing your specific setup, then correcting the root cause rather than just treating symptoms. - [Are pondless waterfalls more cost-effective than ponds?](https://willowridgegardencenter.com/faq/are-pondless-waterfalls-more-cost-effective-than-ponds/): Often, yes. Because there’s no large basin, fewer structural requirements, no fish or heavy aquatic planting, and lower water volume needs, installation and maintenance tend to be simpler and more affordable over time. - [Can I see pondless waterfall features at night?](https://willowridgegardencenter.com/faq/can-i-see-pondless-waterfall-features-at-night/): Absolutely. Many clients add lighting to highlight spillways, rocks, or the streamline. It adds ambiance and allows you to enjoy your water feature after dark. - [How much maintenance do pondless waterfalls require?](https://willowridgegardencenter.com/faq/how-much-maintenance-do-pondless-waterfalls-require/): Very minimal. Typical tasks include checking and cleaning the pump, clearing leaves or debris in the reservoir, inspecting spillway or stonework, occasionally adjusting water levels. No fish food, no skimmer waste. - [Will a pondless waterfall work with Oak Ridge’s soil and tree root issues?](https://willowridgegardencenter.com/faq/will-a-pondless-waterfall-work-with-oak-ridges-soil-and-tree-root-issues/): Yes — we design with root barriers, proper reservoir depth, and drainage in mind. Our experience local to Oak Ridge helps us anticipate challenges like large roots or unstable ground. - [What exactly is a “pondless” waterfall, and how does it differ from a pond?](https://willowridgegardencenter.com/faq/what-exactly-is-a-pondless-waterfall-and-how-does-it-differ-from-a-pond/): A pondless waterfall features water flowing into a hidden pit or reservoir rather than a large pond basin. There’s no pond to maintain (no fish, no large surface water), so you get water’s motion and sound with much simpler upkeep. - [Do I need to be involved in the maintenance schedule?](https://willowridgegardencenter.com/faq/do-i-need-to-be-involved-in-the-maintenance-schedule/): We handle the heavy lifting. All we need is your go-ahead, and our team can manage the schedule—weekly, bi-weekly, monthly—as works best for you. We’ll keep you informed so your pond always looks cared for. - [What does it cost?](https://willowridgegardencenter.com/faq/what-does-it-cost/): Bi-weekly service typically starts around $100/visit, depending on pond size and condition. Clean-out and seasonal services vary with the scope (size, fish, plant volume, equipment). We’d be happy to give you a personalized quote. - [Will I see a difference quickly after maintenance?](https://willowridgegardencenter.com/faq/will-i-see-a-difference-quickly-after-maintenance/): Yes. Many pond owners notice significantly clearer water, fewer smells or algae, better plant health, and smoother pump/filter operation immediately after a good clean-up. - [When is the best time to clean my pond?](https://willowridgegardencenter.com/faq/when-is-the-best-time-to-clean-my-pond/): Early spring to clear away winter’s debris and prepare for growth, and again in fall to remove leaves, prepare for winter, and protect equipment. Weather in Knoxville affects scheduling, but those two seasons are critical. - [What does an annual clean-out involve?](https://willowridgegardencenter.com/faq/what-does-an-annual-clean-out-involve/): Our clean-out process includes draining the pond (temporarily relocating fish if needed), pressure-washing rock and gravel, removing sludge, pruning aquatic plants, cleaning filters and pump components, inspecting all infrastructure, and refilling/settling everything properly. - [How often should I schedule pond maintenance?](https://willowridgegardencenter.com/faq/how-often-should-i-schedule-pond-maintenance/): We offer bi-weekly service as a popular option, but depending on your pond’s size, usage, plant load, and exposure, some clients opt for weekly or monthly check-ups. - [When should I schedule pond cleaning?](https://willowridgegardencenter.com/faq/when-should-i-schedule-pond-cleaning/): At Willow Ridge, we clean almost year-round. While we pause in the coldest winter months, our team begins early in spring and continues through late fall — turning ponds from green to clear in just a day’s work. - [How long does pond installation take?](https://willowridgegardencenter.com/faq/how-long-does-pond-installation-take/): Depends on size & complexity — small ponds might take a couple of weeks; elaborate ponds with waterfalls or streams, fish, lighting, etc., may take longer. - [What aquatic plants or fish are suitable for ponds here?](https://willowridgegardencenter.com/faq/what-aquatic-plants-or-fish-are-suitable-for-ponds-here/): Plants include submerged oxygenators, floating lilies, marginal grasses/irises. Fish typically include Koi, Comets; selection depends on pond size, depth, shade/sun, filtration. - [What is the difference between a pond and a pondless water feature?](https://willowridgegardencenter.com/faq/what-is-the-difference-between-a-pond-and-a-pondless-water-feature/): A pond is deeper, supports fish, aquatic plants, and holds standing water. A pondless water feature focuses on movement and sound of water without a full basin — much lower maintenance, smaller footprint. - [Do ponds require a lot of maintenance?](https://willowridgegardencenter.com/faq/do-ponds-require-a-lot-of-maintenance/): With good design, yes it's less work than many expect. Routine tasks include managing aquatic plants, cleaning filters and skimmers, preparing for winter, occasional cleanouts. Willow Ridge provides pond maintenance services. Willow Ridge Garden Center & Landscaping - [How much will it cost to build a pond in Knoxville?](https://willowridgegardencenter.com/faq/how-much-will-it-cost-to-build-a-pond-in-knoxville/): Small ponds (6’× 8′) generally run $12,000-15,000; medium ponds $15,000-20,000; custom larger ponds (including koi ponds or big waterfalls) begin around $20,000+. Willow Ridge Garden Center & Landscaping - [Will a fountain or urn feature work in all seasons in Knoxville?](https://willowridgegardencenter.com/faq/will-a-fountain-or-urn-feature-work-in-all-seasons-in-knoxville/): Yes — if properly winterized. That means draining lines, covering or protecting pumps, and using materials rated for freeze-thaw cycles. Integrated lighting enhances evening appeal too. - [Do I need special maintenance for fountains & urns?](https://willowridgegardencenter.com/faq/do-i-need-special-maintenance-for-fountains-urns/): Basic maintenance includes keeping the pump clean, occasionally clearing debris, checking water level, and cleaning the surfaces. No fish or aquatic plants generally means simpler care. - [How much does a fountain or urn installation typically cost?](https://willowridgegardencenter.com/faq/how-much-does-a-fountain-or-urn-installation-typically-cost/): Costs begin around $5,000+ for basic fountainscapes or urn-based features. Final pricing depends on style, size, installation complexity, reservoir work, lighting, and finish materials. - [How loud are outdoor fountains / urn fountains?](https://willowridgegardencenter.com/faq/how-loud-are-outdoor-fountains-urn-fountains/): Very minimal. While designs vary, many of our fountainscapes are engineered for subtle sound — enough to soothe, but not overpower. The water flow is usually low and gentle. - [What styles of fountains & urns are offered at Willow Ridge?](https://willowridgegardencenter.com/faq/what-styles-of-fountains-urns-are-offered-at-willow-ridge/): We offer several styles: basalt columns, classic urn fountainscapes, spillway bowls, traditional urn designs, and more. Many include accent lighting so they shine even in twilight. - [What exactly is a “fountainscape” and how is it different from a pond or waterfall?](https://willowridgegardencenter.com/faq/what-exactly-is-a-fountainscape-and-how-is-it-different-from-a-pond-or-waterfall/): A fountainscape is generally a water feature that includes a fountain or urn element with water recirculation via a hidden reservoir system — much like pondless waterfalls. They use less water, no fish or complex plant systems, and are simpler to maintain, while still offering the sound and motion of water. - [How do walkways affect property value?](https://willowridgegardencenter.com/faq/how-do-walkways-affect-property-value/): Professionally designed walkways increase curb appeal, add a sense of completeness to your landscaping, and are a sought-after feature for buyers — especially in upscale Knoxville neighborhoods. - [Can walkways be customized with patterns or accents?](https://willowridgegardencenter.com/faq/can-walkways-be-customized-with-patterns-or-accents/): Absolutely. We offer herringbone, basketweave, geometric, or curved designs, as well as borders, inlays, and mixed materials for added visual interest. - [Will my walkway hold up to Knoxville’s weather?](https://willowridgegardencenter.com/faq/will-my-walkway-hold-up-to-knoxvilles-weather/): Yes. Our installations account for freeze–thaw cycles, drainage, and soil movement. With the right base and materials, walkways remain stable and attractive year after year. - [How do you prevent weeds from growing between pavers?](https://willowridgegardencenter.com/faq/how-do-you-prevent-weeds-from-growing-between-pavers/): We use high-quality joint fillers and polymeric sand during installation, along with proper base preparation and edging. This dramatically reduces weed growth and keeps your walkway looking sharp. - [What materials work best for walkways in Knoxville?](https://willowridgegardencenter.com/faq/what-materials-work-best-for-walkways-in-knoxville/): We often recommend Belgard or Unilock concrete pavers for their durability and range of styles, natural flagstone for a timeless look, or decorative gravel and brick for character. The right choice depends on your home’s architecture, yard conditions, and design goals. - [What makes professional sod installation worth the cost vs doing it myself?](https://willowridgegardencenter.com/faq/what-makes-professional-sod-installation-worth-the-cost-vs-doing-it-myself/): Professionals ensure all prep and drainage issues are addressed, choose appropriate sod types, handle timing (fresh delivery, quick install), use proper techniques (tightly laid seams, rolling, correct soil contact), and offer reliable guidance on care. This results in a lawn that looks great sooner—and lasts much longer. - [How long before I can use my lawn normally (walking, children, furniture, etc.)?](https://willowridgegardencenter.com/faq/how-long-before-i-can-use-my-lawn-normally-walking-children-furniture-etc/): Light use is okay after a week or two. Full traffic—furniture, sports, etc.—should wait until the sod has rooted well, generally 3-4 weeks, depending on variety and weather. - [How often will I need to water new sod?](https://willowridgegardencenter.com/faq/how-often-will-i-need-to-water-new-sod/): Initially, daily watering (moist but not waterlogged) is essential for the first 1–2 weeks. After that, you taper down to fewer times per week, depending on weather, and always water early morning when possible. - [When is the best time of year to install sod in East Tennessee?](https://willowridgegardencenter.com/faq/when-is-the-best-time-of-year-to-install-sod-in-east-tennessee/): Early spring or early fall are ideal. We remove old grass or weeds, till to loosen compacted soil, adjust grade for correct drainage, amend soil with nutrients or topsoil if needed, and smooth the surface so sod lays evenly. - [What types of sod do you recommend for Knoxville?](https://willowridgegardencenter.com/faq/what-types-of-sod-do-you-recommend-for-knoxville/): We work with varieties that tolerate our sun, shade, humidity, and cold snaps — tall fescue blends, shade-tolerant Bermudas, hardy Zoysia options, among others. The right choice depends on your yard’s light conditions, usage, and soil. - [Will installing landscape lighting significantly increase my energy bills?](https://willowridgegardencenter.com/faq/will-installing-landscape-lighting-significantly-increase-my-energy-bills/): Not if designed thoughtfully. Many clients enjoy reliable performance well beyond that with minimal upkeep. - [Do LED fixtures hold up in Knoxville’s weather?](https://willowridgegardencenter.com/faq/do-led-fixtures-hold-up-in-knoxvilles-weather/): Yes. We choose fixtures rated for outdoor use, built with corrosion-resistant materials, sealed against moisture, and designed to withstand freeze/thaw cycles and humidity that East Tennessee is known for. - [Where is landscape lighting placed for maximum impact?](https://willowridgegardencenter.com/faq/where-is-landscape-lighting-placed-for-maximum-impact/): Key locations include along walkways and stairs for safety; beneath tree canopies for stunning uplighting; around patios and seating areas; around water features; and to highlight architectural edges or façades. They’re easier to install around features like patios, water, and plant beds, and their LED versions last longer — something we stand behind in our Knoxville landscape lighting work. - [Do you offer maintenance after installation?](https://willowridgegardencenter.com/faq/do-you-offer-maintenance-after-installation/): Yes, we provide ongoing landscape maintenance to ensure your investment stays beautiful year-round. - [Can I phase my project over time?](https://willowridgegardencenter.com/faq/can-i-phase-my-project-over-time/): Absolutely.
