Yes, it’s that time of year and here they come, mosquitoes! While it is true that mosquitoes have a few beneficial qualities it’s not enough to let them freely inhabit our back yard. We don’t want them near us or our pets so let’s learn how to build a trap to keep them under control.
Mosquitoes need standing water in order to breed and although your yard may be water free, your neighbor’s yard may not. Mosquitoes don’t respect fences, so if your neighbor isn’t controlling their mosquito problem you will quickly have the invaders on your side of the fence looking for a meal.
The best product we know of to kill Mosquito larvae are Dunks and Bits. This is not a chemical poison; it is actually a bacterium that is fatal to mosquito larvae but harmless to other animals, insects and humans. So here’s how the trap works;

Select a decorative container or pot that does not have drain holes. If the container is clear you can make it attractive by placing colored marbles or stones in the bottom.
Place the container away from seating or gathering areas.
Fill the container with water. You can even add a water plant or floating tea lights (make it pretty!)
After filling the container you can either sprinkle the Mosquito Bits on top of the water or, break apart a Mosquito Dunk and add a few pieces.
The standing water will attract the mosquitoes to breed and the resulting larvae will die as they feed. Add new pieces every 30 days and before you know it your mosquito problem will start to decrease.
You can even brag about your trap to that neighbor with the water problem, maybe they will give it a try! Wink, Wink ☺
