Another Christmas has come and gone, and although we may breathe a sigh of relief when the hustle and bustle has passed, I think we also feel a little pang of sadness the day we take down the tree.
If you’ve treated it right, your tree may be almost as fresh as the day you put it up, and it can be difficult to drag it out to the curb for the trash man but, what other choice do we have?
Recycle it!
If your community does not offer a tree recycling program you still have a few options. Christmas trees are a perfect shelter for birds and other small creatures to hide out in the winter. If you have a location out of the way where you can place your tree until spring our feathered and furry friends will thank you.
If you or someone you know has goats or pigs, offer to drop off your tree. Not only will it be a nutritious treat but it will also make their breath minty fresh!
Local Zoo’s are also a great idea. Many zoo animals will eat Christmas trees and you’re also helping the zoo to cut down on some feeding costs! Be sure to call them before dropping off your tree to ensure they are accepting them at that time.
Whichever recycling route you go, just be sure that all ornaments, lights, garland, hooks etc have been removed from the tree as they can pose a danger to wildlife.
So let’s start off the New Year right by recycling that tree!
